Determination of exposure to Fasciola hepatica in horses from Uruguay using a recombinant-based ELISA

چکیده
The risk of exposure to Fasciola hepatica in horses from Uruguay was evaluated using ELISA and a recombinant surface protein (FhrAPS). Blood samples were collected from 368 horses from different districts. Detection of antibodies and the seasonal IgG pattern against the trematode was also established. The overall seroprevalence was 54% (ranging 23% November to 93% December). Significantly higher values were observed in the Anglo-Arab horses (86%) and in those older than xix year (63%). No sexor origin-differences were observed. Two primary risk periods for infection in Uruguay have been identified, the end of spring and autumn. Exposure to the fluke should be taken into account among those horses feeding on pastures grazed by ruminants. Using FhrAPS-ELISA, helpful information concerning the risk of horses to the infection by trematode can be obtained. This test allows the opportunity to compare the results achieved in different laboratories by minimising specific regional effects.

Determination of somatic and excretory-secretory antigens of Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica using SDS-PAGE
Human fascioliasis due to unknown species and animal fascioliasis caused by both or one of Fasciola spp. are commonly seen in Iran. To compare electrophoretic patterns of somatic and excretory-secretory antigens of F. hepatica and F. gigantica by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), the adult flukes were collected from infected slaughtered bovine livers. E/S a...
متن کاملDNA multigene characterization of Fasciola hepatica and Lymnaea neotropica and its fascioliasis transmission capacity in Uruguay, with historical correlation, human report review and infection risk analysis
BACKGROUND Fascioliasis is a pathogenic disease transmitted by lymnaeid snails and recently emerging in humans, in part due to effects of climate changes, anthropogenic environment modifications, import/export and movements of livestock. South America is the continent presenting more human fascioliasis hyperendemic areas and the highest prevalences and intensities known. These scenarios appear ...
متن کاملFasciola in horses in the Republic of South Africa: a single natural case of Fasciola hepatica and the failure to infest ten horses either with F. hepatica or Fasciola gigantica.
The faeces of 11 horses were examined for Fasciola spp. eggs. One of them was positive for Fasciola hepatica, a finding which was confirmed post-mortem. The 10 negative horses were subsequently infested with either F. hepatica or Fasciola gigantica, each animal receiving orally from 500-9,500 metacercariae. No clinical signs were observed and no fluke eggs were detected in the faeces, and neith...

متن کاملEvaluation of Gelatinolytic and Collagenolytic Activity of Fasciola hepatica Recombinant Cathepsin-L1
Background: Cysteine proteases of the liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica, participate in catabolism of proteins, migration of the fluke through host tissues and combat host immune system. Objectives: In this study, we evaluated proteolytic activity of F. hepatica recombinant cathepsin L1 (rCL1) against gelatin and collagen as common substrat...
